Local Activity and Pursuits
Aviemore and the surrounding area provides a multitude of activities for all levels. Listed below is a taster of what you will find: Canoeing - Perfect for all occasions, canoes are also an excellent way to get closer to the unique wildlife in the area. And remember we sit right on the River Spey! Canyoning - this is not for the faint hearted with pool jumps, natural water flumes and abseiling through water falls this is one of the best adrenaline activities in Scotland and is a popular stag and hen activity. Climbing - Indoor - Do you want to gain experience before venturing out onto rock, have a taster to see if climbing is for you, or are you just trying to escape the dreaded midgies!! Climbing: Rock - You have mastered the indoor climbing wall and are now keen to feel the rock? Are you a complete novice but prefer to be outside in the sunshine? With a number of outdoor activitry providers within the National Park you will be spoilt for choice! Expeditions - G2 Outdoor will take the logistical hassle out of your expedition. If you give them an outline plan they will organise the rest whether you want to be on foot, on the sea, in a canoe, or on skis. With their extensive knowledge of all areas of Scotland they may even be able to advise you on areas that you had never even considered before. Gorge Walking - Suitable for younger children and families, where you will be guaranteed to get you laughing and wet without too much technical difficulty or specialist clothing needed. Gorge Swimming - This is one up from gorge walking where you are provided with wetsuits, bouyancy aids and helmets. You will find yourself fighting your way upstream, clambering up waterfalls, swimming/paddling through calmer sections and jumping into deep pools! Once you reach the top you just turn round and slide back down to the start and do it all over again! A hugely popular choice with large groups and team building exercises. Highland Games - go to VisitScotland website for further details on venues and dates. Hill Walking - What more perfect location could you choose? The best of Scotland on foot. Mountain Biking - On a bike you can cover more ground than on foot but still at a pace slow enough to appreciate the wildlife and surroundings. Alternatively you can contact Jules Fincham at Cyclewild where he can take you over more technical ground where you won't have the chance to look up! Scotland is mountain biking heaven where you will experience some of the most scenic, pleasurable biking in Scotland, or some of the most technical. The possibilities for day trips are endless, with plenty of opportunities for longer, expedition-style trips for those with more time on their hands. Jules also specialises in coaching for singletrack skills to take your trail riding to the next level of fluidity and control. Difficult singletrack trails will never have been so ride-able! Also, have a look at Wolftrax in Laggan if you dare! Orienteering - A popular choice as part of a multi-activity week. Orienteering can be as short and simple or long and complicated the choice is yours! Sea Kayaking - G2 Outdoor is well placed to choose either sheltered sea kayaking for novices to find their feet or more exposed sea conditions for the confident paddler. With a wide choice of excellent venues wthey will be able to accommodate any age and ability for either day trips or multi-day expeditions. Skiing and Snowboarding - Within 10 miles of the Cairngorms, with a slightly longer drive to the Lecht and Nevis Range, we are well situated for finding the best snow in our erratic winters. G2 can offer piste based Alpine (downhill) skiing and snowboarding or backcountry Ski Mountaineering and Telemarking all with qualified instructors and leaders. If you do not have your own equipment they may be able to organise hire for you, or provide you with names of reputable companies if you prefer to arrange your own hire. Team Building - Aviemore and the surrounding area offers a wealth of outdoor activity providers who have a vast range of experience and equipment to choose. Winter Skills Courses - One or two day courses designed to give you the skills and confidence to make your walking and mountaineering a year round activity. From the basics of navigation, to using axes and crampons to the more subtle skills of fitting all those plannig and route finding decisions around the avalanche hazard. Combine the skill courses with a guided day or two to fulfil those long held summit aspirations in the UK or as preparation for bigger things abroad. Cycling and Mountain Biking in and around Aviemore
Aviemore bunkhouse is the ideal place to start exploring the Spey valley, and what better way to do this than on a bike, either on or off the road. Forests with rideable tracks are plentiful and the area is the training ground for some of Scotland's top riders. Mountain Biking along the numerous trails in the local forests provides technical and exhilarating riding. Aviemore has well equipped cycle shops stocking the usual equipment and spares and facilities are available to help with minor repairs. | Skiing & Snowboarding - Aviemore Bunkhouse is 12 miles from Cairngorm Ski area, offering some of the best skiing and snowboarding in Scotland. The Season - The skiing season runs from mid January to late April although more often we're skiing by December and often into May!
